Anchor occupation: Diagnostic medical sonographers (29-2032). U.S. median $96,590 in May 2025, about $46.44 an hour.
BLS does not publish a separate wage for cardiac sonographers. Adult, pediatric, and fetal echo sit inside diagnostic medical sonographers, together with abdominal, OB, breast, and vascular ultrasound. Do not use the cardiovascular technologist series (29-2031) as the echo wage. That series mixes EKG, stress, and other roles and pays less.

Nuclear medicine technologists · SOC 29-2033 · BLS handbook
This is the public series for nuclear medicine technologists. It is not limited to nuclear cardiology. A cardiac SPECT or PET lab can sit above or below the all-nuclear median depending on call, radiopharmacy duties, and whether the camera also runs general studies.

Radiologic technologists and technicians · SOC 29-2034 · BLS handbook
Cardiac CT is not its own BLS occupation. The anchor here is radiologic technologists and technicians. Techs who only run coronary CTA often describe offers toward the upper part of this range, but that split is not in the BLS table.

Magnetic resonance imaging technologists · SOC 29-2035 · BLS handbook
Cardiac MR is not broken out from all MRI technologists. The median below is for the whole MRI occupation. Congenital and stress-perfusion work is a slice of that job, not a separate government wage.

Cardiovascular technologists and technicians (29-2031) had a May 2025 median of $74,310, with the lowest 10 percent under $39,000 and the highest 10 percent over $121,350. May 2025 median $74,310. CardioPay does not use this series as the cardiac sonographer wage. It is a broader, lower-paid group. If a recruiter quotes it as 'the echo average,' ask which SOC they mean. Handbook page.
These brackets are rounded from the public 25th-to-75th spread so an offer has a place to sit. They are teaching examples. They are not CardioPay self-reports, and they are not a named employer's scale.
| Comparison | Example bracket | Where it came from |
|---|---|---|
| Echo, staff, annual | $80,000 to $107,000 | Rounded 25th to 75th percentile for all diagnostic medical sonographers, May 2025. |
| Nuclear, staff, annual | $87,000 to $117,000 | Rounded 25th to 75th percentile for nuclear medicine technologists, May 2025. |
| Cardiac CT, staff, annual | $65,000 to $99,000 | Rounded 25th to 75th percentile for radiologic technologists. Cardiac CT is not its own series. |
| Cardiac MR, staff, annual | $81,000 to $106,000 | Rounded 25th to 75th percentile for MRI technologists. Cardiac MR is not its own series. |
Example math, not a market rate
Suppose a travel contract is quoted at $2,200 a week for 13 weeks. That assignment pays $28,600 before you sort taxable wages from stipend, and before you count the weeks you are not on contract. Multiplying $2,200 by 52 and calling it a $114,400 salary overstates the year. This paragraph is only the arithmetic.
